Light Ahead
blacknwhitecity

How did I choose to shoot what I shot in this series? Well I knew that I wanted to get some street shots and then I wanted to personalize it with shooting people in the frame. I went to Chicago and walked around taking snap shots of anything and everything I found interesting. Some of the shots I just pointed the camera and took a picture, not really knowing what I was going to get and others I carefully planned out, looking into the camera to see if the shot was right. In the two photos, Light Ahead and Reflection Overload i carefully set up the shot so that I could get what I saw with my own eyes. I shot these two photos in color and I was blown away by the color and the reflections the light gave off in the photos. But I wanted to try something different and convert them to black in white. I have always been a huge fan of color but after studying some street photographers, I noticed that they had somethings in common. All there photos are in black and white. So I decided to make my photos more “street like photography” and changed them to black and white.

The other photos are more personal in some way or another. In First Ink, it is my boyfriend gettting his first tattoo done in downtown Beloit. I took a lot of pictures of the tattooing process, which included some very funny face shots. I decided to use the photo Frist Ink because you really feel like your there watchign him get inked, and there is this sense of closeness with the tattoo artist. I decided to change the photo into black and white again because I wanted all my photos to kind of realate to each other.

I approced this project differently because I would usually brighten up photos and have them be really colorful, but after seein lots of different street photographers I wanted to stick with their color palette, black and white. I actually wouldnt mind printing these pictures  because I find that I have a connection with them in a way I dont with my color photos. I persoanlly think what made my photos most successful was changing them to black and white. I mean there there cases where I had to lighten up the shadows because things were blending into other things but geting the shadows just right and and geting the photos to be that nice black and white style was fun.
